Gabe Cox Memorial Scholarship
The ACE Mentoring Community honors Gabriel “Gabe” Lee Cox who was one of our team’s brightest, compassionate, talented and comedic students. Gabe was a 2015 graduate of the ACE Mentoring Program and was the leading technical drafting student in the state of Delaware and 4th in the Nation.
Gabe had an unstoppable future ahead of him. After graduating Hodgson Vo-Tech High School in 2015, he attended the University of New Haven, where he received all A’s in his last semester as a major in Architecture and Interior Design. Gabe was most recently awarded for his volunteer work, designing a wheelchair ramp for a disabled Veteran, under the Home Builders Association.
He was a natural sportsman and thoroughly enjoyed making people laugh. Gabe was an inspiration, showing us by example that dedication and passion are the keys to overcoming what others may see as obstacles. With an infectious smile and an air of confidence, Gabe made a lasting impression on those lucky enough to meet him along his path of success.
Gabe was killed suddenly as a passenger in a car accident on the eve of June 28, 2016 at the age of 18. He was predeceased by his dear father, Randall in 2000, and his beloved mother, Shelly in 2009, both due to motorcycle accidents. Gabe is survived by his brother/guardian Dane, his sister-in-law/guardian Margherita, his big sister Kaylee, his Aunt and Uncle, Dana and Danny Crowe, and his surrogate Aunt and Uncle, Anna and Ken Farren; as well as many more aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Today the Delaware Chapter of the ACE Mentoring Community continues to celebrate and honor Gabe’s lasting impression by awarding the Gabe Cox Scholarship to an exceptional ACE Student at our Annual Breakfast.
